As Director of Sponsored Programs at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Crane performs executive functions promoting academic research at the US Air Force Academy (AFA). His current duties include ORTA representative and Technology-Transfer representative. In the past ten years at AFA, he has served in various capacities including Deputy Director of Research, Deputy Director of Assessment and Instructional Designer at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Prior, he was a College Professor/Instructional Designer at the University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College, and Walla Walla Community College. He has also worked as a game-designer and magazine editor for commercial military-simulation company and a Computer Training Instructor for the Department of the Navy.

Crane holds a Master's Degree with Distinction and Bachelor's Degree from CSU Fresno in Military History. He has completed 24 units of course work towards a Ph.D. in military history at University of Idaho.

  • Civilian Employee of the Quarter in Summer 1990 while employed by the Department of the Navy.
  • Civilian Professional Employee of the Quarter in Spring 2001 at USAFA.
  • Outstanding Academy Educator at USAF Academy for AY 2001-2002.
