![]() Happy 1997. I hope the new year brings you challenging but successful times! This will be a year of opportunity for the region. I would like to highlight some of the projects and directions that we will be heading. The efforts are designed to benefit all of the labs and to support your local efforts if you choose to take advantage of the leveraging power. The three major areas that I'd like to focus on will include:
These were selected as a direct result of your input and suggestions. This is your region; please let me know your comments, suggestions and any ideas you have that would assist you to do your job. The budget was approved later than usual. Besides the normal support costs required to provide support, our region was approved for two special projects. I would like to thank all of you who submitted proposals. The two projects were selected by the FLC National Budget Committee because they had applicability across all labs and if successful, could be used in other regions. One project is to do an up-front assessment of technologies using a software tool. The second project is to work with feeder organizations to access new customers. The second focus area was chosen because many of you have requested that the region help advertise and market your technologies. To do this, we'll be looking at doing inserts in appropriate journals, actively participating in exhibits, making use of electronic media and other creative approaches. The third focus area will look to the agencies and organizations within each of your states to re-establish or initiate contacts that will be of benefit to you. I would like to welcome Dr. Mike Sullivan as the new Deputy. Mike brings a wealth of experience and creative ideas. By working together, we can leverage our resources successfully. Let us know what you think. I hope to see many of you in New Jersey during the National Conference.
