4-Cycle & Naval Undersea Warfare Center CRADAVolume 96 No. 4 -- October, 1996
![]() A CRADA has been signed between Four Cycle Technology, of Odessa, WA, and Keyport Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC). The CRADA will help develop a supercharged crankcase for the four cycle engine that 4-Cycle holds a patent on. The basic principle is based on the compression achieved by each piston downstroke used to feed a supercharged fuel/air mixture into the combustion chambers of gasoline and diesel engines, including stepped-piston configurations, thus realizing greater engine efficiencies. Applications include government and commercial marine, light industrial, light aircraft, and unmanned vehicle engines. As partners, 4-Cycle will provide the technology, the engines for conversion, and perform market assessments and NUWC Division Keyport will test the results and make modifications as jointly agreed by the partners utilizing CAD/CAM flexible manufacturing technologies developed by NUWC Division Keyport. Both partners are looking for higher efficiencies and lower operating costs in small engines after conversion. For more information:
