From the Regional Coordinator’s Desk Mr. Kurt Buehler - Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center, Port Hueneme, CA Far West Bulletin - Fall/Winter 2003 Issue Many exciting things are going on in our region. The Far West and Mid-Continent Regions teamed with the Office of Naval Research and the State of Hawaii for our regional meeting, TechEnterprise 2003 at the Sheraton Waikiki in Oahu, August 18-21, 2003. We have reinstituted the Far West Regional Laboratory Awards program this year and made the awards presentations at the TechEnterprise 2003 awards banquet. The award for Far West Laboratory Representative of the Year went to Ms. Cheryl Cejka of DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). This joint regional meeting was a success as documented by the attendee surveys that were returned (see article on page 5 for more details).
The FLC Far West Regional web site has a new face. The redesign of the website can be viewed at www.zyn.com/flcfw/ . More than 30,000 visitors came to the website during the traditionally slow summer months. The Far West Region also partnered with the Mid-Continent Region and Zyn's SBIR Gateway for an exhibit at the National SBIR Conference and Small Business Tech Exposition in Cleveland OH, October 28-30, 2003. Over 600 attendees (mostly small businesses) toured the various displays at the expo. There were a good number of attendees from the Far West region and the topic of our California fires brought many visitors over to our booth. We have just completed the new FLC Far West CD business card and will be sending one to each ORTA in our region. This is a redesign and update of our previous, highly successful card. These cards are a great resource for promoting our Far West regional labs and the opportunities within. These CD business cards are available to regional members free of charge.
